New stuff #3 - Mautoalign plugin

Got some new stuff again. A plugin from MeldaProduction that allegedly fixes phase cancellation automatically. Just plug it in and the magic happens. I did a small test with an old recording of an acoustic guitar and made a demonstration out of it. Read more and check out what happened!

Mautoalign Plugin

I had an recording of an acoustic guitar that I remember having lots of problems with phase issues. Phase cancellation is an effect that occurs for example when using multiple microphones to record a signal. This whole phase issue is quite interesting and I might even drop a Short'n Snappy text on it. But that's for another day. Let's take a look at the tracks we have.

Acoustic guitar was recorded with direct in signal (DI) and a single microphone (Rode NT1-A) at my home. Lots of chair squeaking and other trash is present. The video first demonstrates the recorded signals, and what it sounded like when the tracks were overlaid. After that, the Mautoalign plugin is applied. Take a listen!

The recording used in this demonstration were not processed at all. No EQ, no nothing. Just the raw recordings. Only plugin used, was the Mautoalign. In my mind, the mautoalign worked subtly but nicely. You can hear that the volume is increased as the cancellation effects are removed. Watching the plugin as it worked, I saw that the main phase cancellation effect was around 200 Hz. And as the plugin was activated with default settings, it showed much improvement. All I needed to do was to insert the plugin to both tracks, click the analyse button and activate the plugin. Piece of cake. The phase issues were not so drastic on these recordings as I remembered, but nevertheless the audio quality was improved.

With its ease of use this plugin is definitely a keeper. It has a simple purpose, simple to operate, and audible results. Thumbs up!
